Skin Care
Skin care modalities work in a synergistic way to rejuvenate the skin. When the skin is working in optimal condition, the response to surgery or treatments is more rapid, and the results are more predictable. All aspects of skin care are available through The Plastic Surgery Institute of Washington: skin maintenance, corrective skin care, skin rejuvenation, makeup, and laser therapy.

| We work with multiple skin care lines including Jan Marini Skin Research, La Roche-Posay/BioMedic, and NIA24. Each line combines the work of leading medical and scientific research with innovative formulations. As a medical office, we are able to offer higher concentration, medical-grade formulations which are not available in department stores or non-medical spas. |

Facials
Facials provide a superb way to thoroughly cleanse the skin, unclog pores, and eliminate toxins and impurities. Facials should be a routine component of skin maintenance. They also provide an excellent way for the Medical Skin Care Specialist to get to know your skin. The best part of all is that facials are relaxing, and they feel great!

Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a procedure in which a gentle stream of sand-like crystals exfoliates the outer layer of the skin. This provides a smooth, glowing, youthful appearance. The particles lift away the surface layer of aging, damaged skin which is then removed with the microdermabrasion vacuum tool. This gentle but effective procedure does not require anesthesia. The results are comparable to a light chemical peel with no recovery. Microdermabrasion improves mild to moderate skin damage, superficial scarring, fine wrinkles, and other surface skin problems. This treatment is especially helpful for Asian and dark-skinned patients who may risk skin discoloration with other treatment modalities. To attain the full effect, microdermabrasion is performed as a series of 6 treatments over a period of 6 to 12 weeks.

Chemical Peels
Similar to microdermabrasion, a chemical peel is indicated for pigmentary irregularities, sun damage, superficial scarring, and fine wrinkles. A chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the outer layers, exposing fresh, smooth, undamaged skin. The choice of solution is determined by the Medical Skin Care Specialist based on the patient’s needs and the depth of the treatment. This is more aggressive than microdermabrasion with little to no downtime. A peel provides an excellent way to refresh and rejuvenate the skin. On occasion, microdermabrasion may precede a peel to further enhance the results.

Laser Services
The Plastic Surgery Institute of Washington is proud to be partnered with Physicians Laser Center to provide a full array of laser services to our patients.
Laser hair removal is gentle, non-invasive, and can be used to treat virtually any area of the body. The laser gently cools the surface of the skin as pulses of light are selectively absorbed by the melanin, or pigment, in the hair follicles. The surrounding tissues are unharmed, and the result is significant and often permanent hair reduction.
Fraxel® skin rejuvenation is a new way to achieve the dramatic results of traditional ablative lasers with little or no down time. Fraxel creates microscopic “wounds” in the skin to trigger the body to produce new collagen and skin cells, resulting in improved skin texture, tone, and appearance. It has been FDA approved for treatment of acne scars, age spots, brown spots, melasma, and wrinkles around the eyes.
Spider vein removal on the face or legs can be done in as little as 15 minutes with a specialized laser that targets the red pigment of blood cells, heating them and causing the vessels to collapse. Age and brown spot removal can be achieved virtually painlessly using intense pulsed light (IPL) which causes the pigmented spots to darken and flake off. Tattoo removal is a custom-tailored treatment program that varies with each individual. We have a number of lasers to eliminate the variety of pigments used by tattoo artists.
