Your practice is built around helping patients feel confident in their own skin. How do you approach plastic surgery as a tool for confidence rather than transformation?
I view plastic surgery as a tool for refinement and restoration, not transformation. Most patients come to me because they want to feel more confident in their appearance while still looking like themselves. My role is to listen carefully, understand their goals, and guide them toward results that feel natural, authentic, and match their vision of themselves. My approach is always to align expectations with what is achievable and appropriate for each individual.
When patient requests lean toward dramatic transfiguration, it is often a sign to slow the conversation and ensure that surgery is truly the right solution. The best outcomes enhance and restore, allowing patients to recognize themselves while feeling refreshed and more confident.
You treat a wide range of concerns—from facial rejuvenation to breast and body procedures. How does that full-body perspective shape the care you provide?
I am fortunate to have been trained across the full spectrum of plastic surgery, and in nearly three decades in practice, I have been able to refine my skills to achieve consistently strong outcomes in facial rejuvenation as well as breast and body contouring. Taking this broader, 10,000-foot view allows me to focus on balance and harmony when working with each patient, so their results feel cohesive and aligned with their goals.
For example, a woman or man may feel self-conscious about their midsection due to loose skin and pursue a tummy tuck to feel more confident wearing swimwear. Once their body contour is improved, a subtle facial procedure, such as an upper eyelid blepharoplasty to remove excess skin, can be a complementary early intervention. On its own, this procedure can take five to seven years off the appearance of the face. Together, these treatments create a more comprehensive and natural rejuvenation that may be more powerful than addressing any one area in isolation.
When a patient comes in for a consultation, what are the most important factors you consider before recommending any procedure?
Before recommending any procedure, the most important step is listening carefully to a patient’s concerns and goals. Without that foundation, even a technically successful surgery may leave a patient dissatisfied. If a surgeon does not fully understand what is driving a patient’s desires, or projects an idealized outcome that does not align with the patient’s expectations, it can ultimately lead to disappointment.
Another critical consideration is the patient’s body habitus, overall health, and support system. For example, with a larger-framed patient, the goal is not to create a petite body, but to respect and enhance their natural proportions and celebrate their curves. This is where truly individualized care comes into play.
Health factors also matter. Conditions such as diabetes can affect wound healing, and in those cases, it may be more appropriate to stage procedures to allow the body adequate time to recover. Similarly, longer or combined surgeries may not be appropriate for patients who lack a strong support system at home to assist with postoperative care. Thoughtful planning and patient-specific decision-making are essential to achieving safe, successful, and satisfying outcomes.
What does success look like for you months—or even years—after a patient’s procedure?
Practicing in the DMV for many years has allowed me to see success in many forms. The most rewarding aspect is the long-term relationships I build with my patients. I may perform a procedure for someone and then see them again 10 years later for something entirely unrelated to their original treatment. My broad training and diverse skill set allow me to continue caring for the same patient as their needs evolve over time.
Another meaningful measure of success is when a patient refers a close friend or family member to my practice. That level of trust speaks volumes. Knowing that a patient is so pleased with their experience and outcome that they are willing to entrust their loved ones to my care is the greatest validation of my work. Ultimately, success is defined by lasting relationships, trust built over time, and patients who continue to return feeling confident and well cared for.
What continues to motivate you in your work today?
In the business world, leaders often ask themselves and their teams, “What is your why?” After more than two decades in practice, my own “why” has evolved, but one central theme has remained constant. My greatest professional fulfillment comes from helping patients restore their self-esteem and build their confidence to become the best version of themselves. I am deeply honored to partner with patients and be part of that journey throughout every phase of their care.
