An arm lift, or brachioplasty, can relieve you of the embarrassment of living with flabby upper arms. Unfortunately, as time passes, the upper arms are an area that often develops sagging skin, fat, and tissue. The appearance of flabby, droopy upper arms can plague you, and affect your overall self-confidence. An arm lift, or brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure to restore a firm, fit, and more sculpted look to the upper arms.
Am I a candidate for an arm lift?
If you are one of the many people who feels that their arms are not an attractive feature, you have the ability to undergo a custom surgery to restore definition to your upper arms – a brachioplasty. If you suffer from any of the following aesthetic problems, we invite you to meet with us at Plastic Surgery Institute of Washington:
- Lack of upper arm definition
- Sagging skin folds
- Excess fat on upper arms
- Underarm skin rashes or irritation
What is the brachioplasty procedure?
Some patients may benefit from liposuction to remove excess upper arm fat and create a more defined, sculpted look, while others have lax skin that must be removed surgically. Only an in-person evaluation of your condition will reveal what can help you restore a firm, fit appearance to your upper arms. The surgical procedure will be customized for you and could be performed with several approaches.
Incisions are made in the underside of the upper arms to tighten and sculpt the area, while removing excess fat, often with liposuction. The length of the incision varies, based upon your individual condition. The sagging, drooping skin and fat will all be removed, the incisions closed, and your arms placed in a compression garment to help reduce swelling and speed healing.
Recovery from brachioplasty - what should I expect?
You are free to recover at home but should arrange help from a friend or family member for the first day or two. Keeping your arms elevated on pillows can help you feel more comfortable and reduce swelling. In the early stages, prescription pain medication may be needed. You will need to wear clothing that is easy to remove, as you will be unable to lift your arms above your head. Schedule time off work for one to two weeks, based upon your work, and the fact that every person heals slightly differently. Follow the aftercare instructions we provide carefully, and you will soon be back to your usual activities – with firmer, more attractive upper arms – no more hanging skin or tissue.
