Our Washington DC brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, elevates the eyebrows and lifts the heaviness from the upper eyelids, providing a more open appearance to the eyes and face overall. At Plastic Surgery Institute of Washington, we perform brow lift surgery to restore a more refreshed, alert appearance to the eyes and face.

When Is a Brow Lift Performed?

This procedure is performed to resolve a severe or tired appearance around the eyes. If you have significant, deep creases across the forehead, a Washington, D.C. brow lift will help smooth and firm the area for a more youthful look. Normally, the eyebrow should sit at or just above the orbital rim, or the eye socket. A brow lift procedure restores the tissue to its youthful position to improve facial appearance.

Brow Lift Surgery in Washington, DC

There are several techniques for brow lift.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

In an endoscopic brow lift:

  • Six one-inch incisions are made within the scalp (all within the hairline).
  • A camera the size of a pencil, called an endoscope, is placed through one of these incisions, and instruments are placed through others.
  • This enables the surgeon to elevate the forehead skin, release the eyebrows, and treat some of the muscles creating frown lines between the brows.
  • The forehead skin and eyebrows then slide to a higher position and are then reattached. Often dissolvable surgical screws are placed temporarily to assist in this attachment.

Recovery from Browlift Surgery

After your Washington DC brow lift you will be instructed to sleep with your head elevated on two pillows or a foam wedge. The following day, the dressing will be removed in our office, and you can shower and wash your hair. The closure consists of sutures and staples which are removed five to nine days after surgery. Once all the sutures and staples are removed, you will be asked to massage your scars when shampooing.

Brow Lift Side Effects

Headaches are common in the post-operative period, along with associated numbness of the forehead and scalp, which may last for several weeks or longer. The sensation will return gradually over time, although possibly not to a full 100 percent.

Limitations on Activities

You will be asked to limit your activity for the first two weeks from the day of surgery. At that time, you can gradually start resuming your usual level of activity, and exercise with the expectation of being back to normal at approximately three to four weeks.
